What is Chiropractic?

The purpose of Chiropractic is to maximize health. Chiropractic is not just therapeutic care or treatment for musculoskeletal symptoms or conditions, but instead, a global contribution to the general health and well being of patients.

According to the Association of Chiropractic Colleges, Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The purpose of Chiropractic is to optimize health. The body's innate recuperative power is affected by and integrated through the nervous system. Chiropractic is concerned with the preservation and restoration of health, and focuses particular attention on the subluxation. A subluxation is a complex of functional and/or structural and/or pathological articular changes that compromise neural integrity and may influence organ system function and general health.

 What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractors are the only doctors trained in the detection and correction of vertebral subluxation. Vertebral subluxations can exist with or without pain; either way they have a devastating effect on our health. The role of the nervous system is to control the function of every cell, tissue and organ in the body, plus adapts and relates your body to the environment1.  Most people are unaware that only 10% of your nervous system is made up of sensory (pain) nerves. The other 90% controls everything else: your heart, lungs, thinking, breathing, digestion, immune system, the five senses, etc. Once again, vertebral subluxations interfere with nerve function. But what causes subluxation? Physical, chemical, and emotional stress beyond our body’s ability to adapt causes subluxations. If there is interference with nerve function there will be interference with the body's ability to heal and regulate. This stress and tension on your nervous system causes a downward spiral in your health and vitality! Research by Sharpless et al showed that it only takes 10mm Hg of pressure to reduce nerve function by 60%1 (10mm Hg is equivalent to the weight of a dime on the back of your hand). Chiropractors correct subluxations and allow our bodies to function optimally.
