People are always asking us questions such as this: “Will chiropractic help fibromyalgia, or allergies, or asthma, or migraines?” This list goes on and on. While it is true that Chiropractic care may help or eradicate an enormous variety of ailments and symptoms, the intent of Chiropractic is not to treat specific diseases. Chiropractic helps the body function at its best by removing nerve interference; therefore, the body is able to correct and heal on its own. |
Do Chiropractors Treat Disease? Chiropractic has only one goal. Our objective is to eliminate subluxations, which are a major interference to the expression of the body’s innate wisdom. Our philosophy guides us to look at the entire person’s body, mind, and spirit where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Chiropractors try to look at what caused the loss of health in the first place. We realize that both health and disease are processes that happen over time. We help people become aware of the lifestyle that caused the loss of health and begin a process of correction. Over Chiropractic’s 110 year history, countless people have been helped with many different health problems. But the intent of the chiropractor is to remove nerve interference caused by vertebral subluxation and allow the body to heal itself from the inside out, not treat the disease. We have an old saying in Chiropractic: Health and Healing comes from ABOVE, DOWN, INSIDE, OUT! Our practice members have their spines checked on a regular basis to help their bodies adapt to stress, function optimally and stay healthy. Health: A state of optimal physical, mental and social well being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Vertebral Subluxation: A misalignment of one or more of the 24 vertebra in the spinal column which causes alteration of nerve function and interference of the transmission of mental impulses. This results in a lessening of the body’s innate ability to express its maximum health potential. Adjustment: An adjustment is the specific application of forces to facilitate the body’s correction of vertebral subluxation. Our chiropractic method of correction is by specific adjustments of the spine. |
Symptom Free Does NOT Equal Healthy October 10, 2003 USA Today reported that the presence of certain antibodies in the blood that may signal the development of rheumatoid arthritis years before symptoms begin. That’s the conclusion of a new study published in the October 2003 issue of Arthritis and Rheumatism, which found one-third of all people with rheumatoid arthritis had antibodies, called anti-CCP antibodies, in their blood long before they ever felt the first symptoms of the disease. Rheumatoid arthritis joins the list of illnesses that start without producing symptoms. Heart disease, the “silent killer”, advances many years before symptoms develop. Most people with diabetes have no symptoms until the disease has advanced. The list extends even further and includes, cancer, MS, liver disease, circulatory problems, eyesight, and hearing deterioration, etc... How does that relate to you? Even though you may not feel any pain, you may be experiencing a loss of nerve function by way of vertebral subluxations. You may not FEEL the loss of function, but that does not mean there may not be a problem. Doctors of Chiropractic are the only doctors trained in the detection and correction of vertebral subluxation. We even have computerized technology available to detect areas of nerve interference. Don’t wait for a symptom to point out the problem, begin now by having your nervous system checked.
